I love traveling and found inspiration in the places I have been. If you have been following along with my work, you might have seen other landscapes I’ve done. Windsor Castle after my trip to England, Santa Maria della Salute in Italy. And my latest, Tuileries Gardens in France. The vast majority of my traveling is still done within the United States and yet, this is my first landscape of US soil.
Painting landscape is nothing like the rock and roll, like painting portraits or concerts. The textures and colors are wholly different. More natural and vibrant, the depth of field and creating space requires a different eye, different technique. And I love this. Completely. It is challenging my skill as an artist and I feel my work is expanding.
Sedona is a town in Azizona surrounded by red-rock buttes, steep canyon walls and pine forests. This particular image is a composite of three separate photographs I took while on walks. If this vantage point actually exists, I don’t know, I would have to go back. But of all the images I did take and subsequently reviewed I selected three to sketch out this idea. What do you think?
